What types of smart outlets are available?

Today, you can buy smart outlets with various types of remote control:

• Smart plug with a remote control unit – turn on/turn off without extra functions. The battery-operated remote control unit can control 4-5 outlets. Each outlet corresponds to a pair of buttons. Such outlets are good for a single house/territory, but they do not provide true remote control.
• Outlet with a GSM-module with a SIM-card of your telecom provider. This device allows remote control via SMS or phone call. The phone numbers to control the outlet are programmed in the memory of the plug to prevent hacking. A good mobile signal is required for uninterruptable operation of the system.
• Smart plug connected to a Wi-Fi router. A dedicated IP-address is assigned to the device for remote control through an app. Wi-Fi outlets offer the additional function: timer, scenarios of operation, as well as electricity and time metering.
• Outlet with Zigbee and Z-Wave. These are the most popular wireless communication protocols for smart home devices. These technologies have been designed specifically for remote control of appliances, lighting, heating, access and climate control systems. These technologies allow the signal to bypass room obstacles easily.
